Education Programs University Extension University of California, Merced
UC Merced Extension (www.extension.ucmerced.edu) began by offering courses online on a variety of topics in partnership with UC Irvine.
Education Programs is the first academic discipline being developed and will initially offer face-to-face and blended courses. As the Director of Education Programs, I seek to collaborate with P-12 educators and stakeholders in Merced County as well as UC Merced faculty to engage the Central Valley community in scholarship and creativity while fostering a culture of inquiry and discovery learning. This includes courses for credit or continuing education units on topics of interest for pre-service and certificated teachers. Our long-term goal is to create certificate programs.
Extension's Education Programs will include certificate programs as well as post baccalaureate programs. We are developing a certificate program in Project-Based Math and Science, a certificate program in Teacher Preparation, and a certificate program in Bilingual Education.
Extension's Education Programs will provide district professional development for P-12 educators in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) to facilitate their transition to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and their integration with the California Common Core Standards (CCCS) for Mathematics, English Language Arts and Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and technical Subjects. These opportunities for professional development may result in CEUs or academic credit, depending on the district and course content. The first workshops will be offered Summer 2017.
